Spring appears to have spring!!!

We have certainly been enjoying the pretty weather! It’s so nice to be able to play outside in the afternoons. The girls are really enjoying being able to run and play after being cooped up for so long. Elizabeth and a little boy from down the street play together a lot, and Amy finds them both fascinating, though she does get a little frustrated that she can’t do all that they can do.
Amy FINALLY let me put her hair in pigtails!!! One she finally did, she wants them all the time. She had reached the point of looking like a little shaggy dog, but I REALLY didn’t want to have her hair cut until she turned three. Now, I think we’ll make it! She looks SO cute.

It’s no big secret that Elizabeth is a VERY literal child, and also a VERY deep thinker. Well, the other day she got in trouble b/c she didn’t do well on one of her school papers (note-the problem was not the bad grade, the problem was that she obviously didn’t try, she even spelled her name wrong on the paper). Anyway, she has been rushing through her work, and it shows. We have been warning her, but to no avail. So, we finally decided we were going to have to take action. We decided that she would be grounded from TV and computer for the rest of the week, and we would re-evaluate on Friday afternoon based on her performance the rest of the week. Well, Elizabeth has computer class at school on Fridays. She HATES it. I really don’t know why, she loves the computer at home, but she does. So, she says,
E-No computer Mama?
K-nope.
E-none at all?
K-nope.
E-not at Memaw’s?
K-nope.
E-none at home?
K-nope (see a pattern?)
E-Wellllllllll……then I guess I can’t have computer class on Friday at school, either.

It is at this point that we realize once again that the teenage years at our house will be very interesting. The little goob is already trying to use reverse psychology on us.

I don't really have a lot to say...we've had some CRAZY weather lately...snow and then shorts two days later...just thought I'd post some new pics. I have a couple of videos, gonna see if I can upload them. Amy has become obsessed with guitars, and I have a cute video of it. you can see it in the pics, too. Doesn't help that Elizabeth sings the Hannah Montana song ALL THE TIME!!! I have a video of that, too.

This is Amy on one of the her croup days. She was watching 101 Dalmatians. It's rough to be sick at the Wiles' house.

And finally...a Public Service Announcement. BEWARE FLYING BABIES!!! These feral children have been spotted in back yards across America. Having been cooped up all winter, they exhibit behavior not unlike that of a flying squirrel. They will actually LEAP from area to area, in an attempt to surprise their prey. Film at 11.

Well, we finally had our appt at the ENT today. Things went very well, they tested her hearing again and the doc examined her.
Then, he showed us the results of her hearing test. He showed us the benchmark, and every one of her scores were well above the benchmark. He said that he wasn’t sure why they said she failed the test. He said that she could have had a little bit of a cold, or the fact that one of her eardrums is a little less sensitive could have thrown them off.
I am SSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO relieved!!!! I am so glad that I listened to my mom gut!!! I had been praying and praying that I was overreacting and nothing was wrong or They would be able to fix whatever it was right there in the office. Thank you, Lord!!!!!
So, I have learned two things from this.
1. Trust your mom gut. Your pediatrician is NOT always right. If we had done as they advised, E would be in therapy for no reason.
2. Don’t have your kid’s hearing tested at school.
Relief is abundant at the Wiles’ house tonight!!!

It finally happened! Elizabeth lost her first tooth!

It’s been loose since before Christmas. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. Then at dinner on Saturday, she showed me how she could lay it down flat with her tongue. Well, it was coming out that night. Long story short, after screaming, whaling, and gnashing of teeth (hahaha), the tooth was out. Now, if you know Elizabeth, you know that it was DRAMA!!! I have heard women scream less birthing children. HAHAHAHA She looks so sweet with that little gap in her mouth! I really thought I would cry, but I didn’t. Memaw actually pulled it, and I scrubbed a hole in the floor while she did it (I clean when I’m stressed). Amy cried when she saw the hole in E’s mouth. The Tooth Fairy came that night. We were able to convince her that it would be ok to leave the tooth in her glasses case rather than under her pillow. I know that we normally don’t so stuff like that—Santa, Easter Bunny, and the like, and I think she’s on to me about the Tooth Fairy, but I figured what could it hurt? She has another loose one….. I find it amusing that the first tooth she lost was the first one she got. Baby teeth are SO TINY!!!
In other news, Amy is progressing nicely in the potty training department! I have not forced the issue by any means, I believe wholeheartedly in child led potty training, but she wants to go, so we go. She is averaging using the potty 3-4 times a day. I think that is just fine at 26 months old!!! Of course, she still wears diapers, b/c if she is busy she will wet them, but she will occasionally come and tell us PEEPEE or POTTY!!! You can tell when she’s sitting there and about to go b/c she gets this big grin on her face. We may actually get to STOP buying diapers in the near future. Jason and I are really making an effort to cut back expenses, maybe she’s just doing her part.

A big weekend at the Wiles’ house!!!
For the past few weeks, Amy has been getting into Elizabeth’s bed every night when we say it’s time for bed. One night, she even went so far as to tell me that Izzy could sleep in her bed. So, we decided to try the big switch. We converted her crib to a toddler bed. Friday night, we switched it over. We left all the parts out, just in case we had to switch it back at 3am. Once she saw it, she was ready to go to bed at 6pm! We convinced her to eat dinner first, and then we would go to bed. We’ve been calling it the “Big girl bed’, but she just calls it her “girl bed”. So cute!
She is hot stuff in that bed. She has done SO WELL!!! Never getting out of it! It’s funny to notice how she sleeps in it..before she would sleep plastered to the side of the crib. Now, she sleeps all sprawled out in the middle of the bed. My little baby is really growing up!!!

On another note, we are in the process of trying to find out why Elizabeth can’t hear. I had her hearing tested at school a while back, and she failed part of the test. Since we finally have real insurance on the girls again, we are trying to get it checked out. I called the ped. And they wanted to send her right to therapy. I disagree. So, long story short, we are waiting on a call from the ENT dr to make an appt. I called a friend of a friend at the school for the deaf here in Jackson, and she recommended that we just go to the ENT, b/c Elizabeth would end up there anyway. Of course, she can’t diagnose her without seeing her (the deaf school lady), but she said it sounded very reasonable that she had a wax build up, or even fluid on her inner ear. Of course, if the child needs therapy, we will get therapy for her. But, at this point, I really feel that’s premature. Anyhow, just say a prayer that we can get in soon and get this resolved, and of course that the problem can be fixed either in the office or with medication, and that it will not require surgery or anything else.
I just now got a call from the ENT—we go on Feb 26. I feel relived already; we’re going to be fine!!!!! Keep praying!!!

This morning, Amy and I had an amusing conversation in the car after we dropped Elizabeth off at school.
A-“Oh, no Mommy! Where Izzy go?”
K-“I don’t know Amy, where did Izzy go?”
A-“To ‘cool.”
K-“Yes, to school. When you get bigger, you can go to school, too!”
A-“No.”
That was it. Just flat no. Ok, so it was funny to me. ;)
